Preschool Swim Schedule



Swimming Lessons: Ages 6 - 14
Has your preschool child been enrolled in the City of Longmont Recreation Department swim program and you are confused what level to enroll them in at the YMCA? Here is a close match up of levels:
Pollywog I = Level 1
Pollywog II = Level 2
Guppy = Level 3
Minnow = Level 4
Fish = Level 5
Porpoise Club = Levels 6-8

Pollywog — Beginner
Participants in this class will learn water adjustment, floating, safety skills, and an introduction to the four major strokes.

Guppy — Some Swim Experience
This class is for swimmers who are adjusted to the water and can swim a short distance on their own. Swimmers will learn rotary breathing, backstroke, underwater swimming, and deep water confidence.

Minnow — Intermediate
To enter this level, children must be able to front crawl with rhythmic breathing and swim on their back alternating paddle for 50 feet without a float belt.

Fish — Advanced
To enroll in this level, children should be able to front crawl with rotary breathing for 50 yards, and know rudimentary breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.

*Birthday Parties
*Have your child’s next birthday party at the Ed and Ruth Lehman YMCA. Come enjoy the pool while our inflatable or Lumber Jack Log are in place. After swimming, reserve the multipurpose room for cake, ice cream, presents, and games! Parties are scheduled in 2 hour time slots on Saturdays from 1:00 ­ 5:00 p.m. or Sundays from Noon ­ 4:00 p.m. Please contact the YMCA at 303-776-0370 to make arrangements.


 
Porpoise Club
Designed for youth with intermediate level or higher swimming skills (have passed Fish level) who like to workout and have fun! Class emphasis is placed on stroke improvement and endurance, but also includes other fun aquatic activities, including a focus on improving speed.

Swim Camps
Swimmers ages 6-12 will benefit from these 5 day swimming clinics where our professional aquatics staff will direct the kids in pool safety, positive behavior, and taking on challenging new swimming skills. Bring a suit and a towel and get out of the house for summer fun!

Masters Swim Team
This is a coached group workout for those swimmers 18+ who want to keep their competitive edge. Free to YMCA members.

*Semi-Private Lessons
Do you have two children that you would like to receive private swim instruction at the same time? Semi-private lessons are a great option for families who desire more individualized instruction and may have a hectic schedule. Contact the Aquatics Department at 720-652-4733 to schedule semi-private lessons. (Price includes two children)

*Private Swim Instruction for All Ages
Private swim instruction is a great way to work swim lessons into your child’s busy schedule. Emphasis will be on aquatic skills with more personalized attention. Classes for adults of all abilities are also available. Contact Aquatics Dept. at 720-652-4733 to schedule private lessons.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons Cancellation Policy
A 24-hour advanced notice (to the instructor or YMCA) is required for cancellation of all private swim lesson appointments. If you miss or cancel your appointment and do not give advance notice, the following policy is in place:

First time: You may reschedule at no additional cost at another time.
Second & subsequent times: You will be charged 11/2 times the regular fee for your next lesson.

Quality Care for Elementary Students
*The YMCA offers an excellent care program for elementary-aged children, with options that fit every child’s schedule. We feel that an organized, stable, and structured environment is imperative to conduct an effective program. Kids Inc. focus is on well-rounded fun, stability, and most of all, room for growth. Children are presented with options within their schedule.

Schools We Serve and Provide Transportation:
Spangler, Loma Linda, Northridge, Central, Sanborn, Mountain View, Fall River, St. Johns, Columbine, Alpine and Rocky Mountain
YMCA Kids Inc is also provided at Flagstaff Academy and Carbon Valley Academy for children who attend these schools.

Kids Inc. Before and After School Programs Kindergarten — 6th Graders

Designed to provide a safe, fun and enriching place for children to be before and after school plus days off school. Activities are designed for elementary-aged youth, with swimming, sports, art, science, creative play and lots of choices.

Before School: Breakfast snack, quiet activities and additional homework/study time will be available from 6:30 AM until school begins (8 AM - 8:30 AM depending on school). Located at the YMCA. We will be responsible for transportation to area schools.

After School: Afternoon snack, activities and homework time are available from when school lets out (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM depending on school) until 6:00 PM. Located at Carbon Valley Academy, Flagstaff Academy, and the YMCA. For the YMCA site, we will be responsible for transportation from area schools.

Days Off School: Full day vacation camp programs are also available on days off school. Look for special flyers or call 720-652-4731. Regular Kids, Inc. participants only pay $10 per day!

Kids Inc. Summer Y Camp
June 2 - August 15

Located in Longmont and Frederick, Kids Inc. Y-Camp promises an action packed summer. We will create, explore, experience and imagine. Y-Camp activities nurture the spirit, challenge the mind, and strengthen the body. Our caring and well trained staff team, ensure a great camp experience. We offer swimming, sports, games, team-building activities, arts and crafts, nature studies, cooking science, and field trips. For more information contact Giselle Lehmann at (720) 652-4731. YMCA Youth Sports Leagues
*Kids will have fun, learn new skills, gain confidence and be physically active in the YMCA’s Youth Sports Leagues. Age-appropriate teams are formed for boys and girls ages 4 — 12 years.

Registration for each league starts approximately 2 months prior to the league season.

Spring Soccer League
Our coed and non-competitive sports leagues are designed to teach the skills of the game and support fun and teamwork. There will be 9 practices and 7 games.

New! Let Em Play! Soccer

?These unstructured soccer games are played in a safe environment and revolve around children’s needs. Games will concentrate on play and action with adults available to help when needed. No practice and one hour games. Late registrations will be accepted with a $5.00 late fee. Volunteer supervisors needed. Shin guards required.

Grades: 1st – 6th Grade

Youth Activity Classes

Creative Dance
These classes are designed for boys and girls to discover the magic of movement through progression that stresses creativity and group interaction. Learn to hop, skip and gallop as we improvise through an imaginative environment. Ballet, jazz and modern dance fundamentals will be explored in a fun and stimulating format using assorted "props". No special attire or shoes required.

Beginning Ballet

This class is offered to beginning dancers, both boys and girls. We will learn the principles of ballet, correct terminology and the accurate placement of the body. Ballet slippers required. Visitors will be allowed to observe the last class only.

Martial Arts Classes

Introduction to Martial Arts
Here’s an afterschool class that let’s youth explore a variety of martial arts. It’s a great introductory class, and many youth then progress on to Karate, Jujitsu or Kendo. Youth will learn patience and responsibility, basic moves and the long history of martial arts. Taught by Hanshi Miles McGaughey, 6th degree black belt with over 34 years experience in the martial arts.

Jujitsu
Jujitsu literally means the "gentle art". Our program emphasizes the ability of a weaker, smaller person to overcome a much stronger, larger opponent. Specifically geared for active kids and women, Jujitsu teaches how to use the attacker's force against oneself. Training includes a unique blend of traditional martial arts weaponry coupled with modern physical, mental and emotional drills. Jujitsu is an art that can be practiced throughout one's life and at 22 years and counting, the Longmont YMCA Jujitsu class represents the Y's oldest martial arts program. Classes are taught by Hanshi Miles McGaughey, 6th degree Black Belt with over 32 years experience in the martial arts.

Karate
Our Japanese Shotokan Karate offers a unique blend of traditional martial arts with an instructional approach designed to give each student a thorough understanding of the physical, theoretical and mental aspects of martial arts. Instruction provides increased physical fitness, coordination, confidence, discipline, concentration and knowledge of self-defense skills. Advancement through all belt levels is available. Classes are taught by Nancy Jones, 3rd degree black belt. New students should wear comfortable clothing.

Youth Sports Camps

Our YMCA Summer Camps offer many opportunities for your camper to learn specific skills. Sport camps run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon throughout the summer. The registration deadline for all camp programs is on the Monday one week before the start of the camp session. For more information, contact Sports Director, Mary Monk at (720) 652- 4736.

Partial Day Sports Camp
M-F 9:00 am - Noon

Baseball Camp
Get ready for the YMCA’s baseball season. We focus on the four tools of baseball: hitting, throwing, fielding, and speed/agility. Training and stations are always position and skill level specific so that each camper gets the most out of camp. Please bring a glove, baseball hat, snack and water bottle.

Grades: 1 – 6 Grade
Dates: June 2-6

Soccer Camp
Participants will practice soccer fundamentals of dribbling, trapping, passing, shooting, and strategies. Each day will include skill sessions, small sided games, and coached scrimmages. As always we will emphasize our core values,
Caring, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect. Bring a snack and water bottle. Shin guards required.

Sports and Games Expo
This camp will include activities for young sports enthusiasts. Soccer, basketball, whiffleball, kickball, lacrosse and Frisbee are just a few of the activities planned for this fun-filled summer sports explosion. Bring a snack and water bottle.

Basketball Camp

This camp is for you if you love basketball or just want to learn the game and improve your technique. Skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting will be taught in a fun, non-competitive environment. Bring a snack and water bottle.

Lacrosse Camp

Get set for the fall lacrosse season! Divided into 3 levels, this camp is for anyone wanting to learn more about this great sport or hone their established lacrosse skills. Bring a snack and water bottle.
