About LiveWell LongmontLiveWell Longmont is a movement designed to ensure that healthy lifestyle choices are always available and convenient for all who work, live, play, and learn in our community. Our vision is to make Longmont, Colorado the healthiest community in the healthiest state! In August 2007, the Longmont community was selected to participate in the YMCA’s national Activate America initiative and partnership with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as one of 18 communities nationwide deemed a YMCA/CDC Pioneering Healthier Communities (PHC). LiveWell Longmont initially began as Activate Longmont through an initiative that the Longmont YMCA convened and led in late 2007. Upon receiving funding from LiveWell Colorado, the name was changed to LiveWell Longmont. The YMCA continues to serve as LiveWell Longmont’s fiscal agent and has representation on the LiveWell Longmont Steering Committee. The initiative has the same goals and approach as LiveWell Colorado: Developing a collaborative and inclusive process for communities to come together to make increased physical activity and improved nutrition an accessible choice for all.
